An article regarding murders by security guards

At least 30 men and women were murdered by security guards between the years 2002 and 2013, 16 women and 14 men. In addition, seven men and one woman committed suicide using the security weapon they owned. All men did this after using the weapon to murder another, before killing themselves. Since the beginning of the year, two people have already been murdered by the weapons obtained by security guards,

one of them committed suicide right after. This data are is partial and were collected through the activity of the "Gun Free Kitchen Tables", a coalition of women's and human rights organization which aim is to raise public attention to the issue

According to the women of the coalition, the authorities do not collect information about the improper use of weapons by both security guards and members of the security forces. In the past, the coalition appealed to the Commissioner of Police, Senior Superintendent Yochanan Danino, and to the personnel of the Ministry of Internal Security, with a request to collect data regarding the use of firearms. The women's organizations claim that the failure to collect the information "does not allow effective prevention of violence against women." In the police response on the matter, given last September, the commissioner's office claimed that "we understand the importance in producing the data, and indeed it will be integrated into the division's work plan according to previous priorities. All this taking into account other requirements, with a higher priority."

לAccording to the law and in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Internal Security, the weapon must be handed over to the security guard at the beginning of a shift and taken away at the end of it. The definition is clear: use during working hours only. In 2005, the procedures were even refined, when the Brinker Committee - an inter-ministerial committee that examined the array of weapons for guards in Israel - determined that security guards should be prevented from taking their weapons home at the end of their work day leaving it possible for a security guard to have a weapon if he is on standby, or as part of the security company's reserve. However, over the years התרופפה אכיפת החוק בחברות האבטחה The enforcement of this matter has loosened, and employees no longer had to part with their weapons even during their free time. Added to this was a directive from the Ministry of Internal Security according to which in exceptional cases an employee of the security company, who is defined in advance as a "special license holder", can approve the weapons being left in the hands of the security guard. But this is only "in the case where this is necessary for the performance of his duties". However, over the years this permit became very common and the security companies, who had difficulty monitoring and collecting the weapons at the end of the shift, greatly expanded the extent of the instruction. In an attempt to reduce this problem, the Ministry of Internal Security decided to establish conditions for the possession of the security guards' weapons, and the security companies were required to install a safe in each security guard's home. The security guards were required to commit that they stored their firearm in the safe every time they take it home. Initially, the regulation was supposed to be effective in March, but it became clear to the security companies that the process of ordering the safes is complex, certainly in the numbers of hundreds or even thousands of safes, so an order from foreign companies was required . Finally, it was decided at the Ministry of Internal Security to postpone the start date of the installation to this upcoming June.
